What is a Talisman?

A talisman is a piece of jewelry usually worn around the neck to protect the wearer from evil eye or negative forces, and to bring good luck to him/her. Also called an amulet or a good luck charm, a talisman may include gems, stones, figure of a particular God, animal, plant, tree, or a symbol, or a quote or saying from the Holy scripture and teachings.

Talismans are worn by and large in every religion and country. The Jewish wear Mezuah pendant with Star of David, or a pendant with a kabbalistic name of God, or a Kabbalah jewelry, usually red string bracelet to ward of negative influences. The Christians wear talismans depicting the Cross and the Evil eye to protect the wearer from the Evil Eye. In Hinduism, they wear the talismans with pendants of Ohm or Buddha for spiritual enlightenment and bringing peace and prosperity, and in Islam, one wears lucky eyes rosary.
